A couple things, while Waco was a tragic occasion, they did exactly what you're saying we should have done in Somalia. The Branch Dividians were trying to kill those same starry eyed 18 year old boys. They were asked to let the women and children out they said no, they were given multiple chances to surrender, they decided to fire and were dealt with. It's harsh, but to get those boys out of Somalia we would have had to bomb women and children or get a whole lot more of those roguish young boys filled with hot lead. There were thousands and thousands of soldiers and civilians with guns that were entrenched in the city, rooting them out would have been nearly impossible and trust me, more than 19 would have died trying to. A lose-lose situation, and the most grievous of the errors was underestimating the situation they were getting into.
What happened in Somalia was horrible, and yes our government could have tried to get those boys out. But to sugeest that those planes were hijacked because of Bill Clinton is just recockulous. For one, Clinton and his heads of state realized that they would have to send more troops than, and be there for longer than the law would allow. Something W has never considered when he has done anything. Fear of another attack on our soil has given him too much leash and everyone that can is scared to yank on it for fear of political backlash or because he or his daddy put them where they are. Secondly we aren't in Iraq for oil, we're there for revenge. Saddam Hussein tried to KILL papa Bush, that's why we're there, and if we were building schools and hospitals then it would be different. But we're not, we're acting as the police, we're walking their streets with automatic rifles telling them their way of life is going to get better. That all they need is democracy, a little stability and guidance from us and they'll be fine. That even though they still can't see the improvements after all this time of occupation that they're coming. I'm sorry but if a bunch of guys with guns were occupying my state and walking my streets telling me they were saviors, I'd borrow one of Colin's guns and they'd be getting sniped. Al-Quida has stated on a few occasions that our war mongering, elitist, stick our nose, guns, tanks and aircraft in everything way is one of their highest motivating factors. Bush has used our fear as a tool, and an effective one, to give him free reign. Everytime he breaks a law or flat out lies to us he just brings up terrorists and safety and people back down. I'm not saying Clinton didn't lie, they all do, they're politicians after all. Oh and BTW, our government just rolled over the $20 Million dollars they set aside this past year for an Irag victory party to the next budget.
Question, if the attack on the US started all of this, why aren't we focusing on bringing Bin-Laden to justice? Why could we find Hussein in a hole somewhere in the back country but we can't find a 6'6" man in a land of 5'6" men that has to travel with a dialosis machine? We got the man that tried to kill papa Bush but the guy that actually organized the attacks on our soil, who happened to be an old business partner to papa and son, is still out there and taunting us?
I wholeheartedly agree that the world needs to become more conscious of it's opressed ignored and forgotten, I just don't think country by country at gunpoint is the way to go about it. Perhaps if it's planned out but to just throw men and might at the problem in a willy nilly fashion, which is what our attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq boiled down to, just isn't feasible or conscionable.
